Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. We think deeply and solve complex technical challenges in areas like robotics, perception, decision-making and deep learning, while collaborating with hardware and systems engineers. This internship will be based on-site at our headquarters in Mountain View, CA.
You will:
Work alongside with our engineers in the perception / research team on training / finetuning multi-modality foundation models.
Design efficient model architectures, apply distillation / model pruning algorithms to make it run efficiently on cars.
Design metrics and evaluate model performance on both the internal dataset and academia benchmark.
You have:
Pursuing a Masters or PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related technical fields
Experience with Deep Learning & Computer Vision
Proficiency with Python coding & at least one deep learning framework (e.g. Jax, TensorFlow)
Publications in top peer-reviewed conferences (eg: CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, Neurips, ICLR)
We prefer:
Experience with training large foundation models with distributed training.
Experience of modeling multi-modality data for perception tasks.
Experience with Jax

The expected hourly rate for this full-time position is listed below. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company's generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.
