Job Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

The Role

As AI Legal Program Manager, you will play a key role in navigating the legal and regulatory landscape of Block's artificial intelligence initiatives. You will partner with legal, engineering, product, and compliance teams to develop frameworks that enable responsible AI innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance and risk management across our AI products and services. You will report into the AI and Bitcoin Legal Lead at Block.

You Will

  • Drive the development and implementation of AI legal and compliance frameworks, including policies for model development, deployment, and monitoring that align with the latest AI regulations and industry standards.
  • Participate in cross-functional reviews of AI projects to identify legal risks and opportunities, ensuring compliance with regulations while enabling innovation.
  • Develop AI governance documentation, including model cards, algorithmic impact assessments, training data compliance records, and legal risk assessments.
  • Partner with engineering teams to implement legally compliant AI development practices, including requirements for transparency, fairness, and accountability.
  • Create processes for AI incident response, model monitoring, and legal compliance validation.
  • Build scalable processes for AI legal reviews across different stakeholders.

You Have

  • 5+ years of directly related experience in technical program management, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML initiatives in a technology-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of emerging AI regulations (EU AI Act, state AI laws, etc.) and their practical implementation.
  • Experience developing legal frameworks for AI governance and responsible AI development.
  • Experience partnering with technical teams to implement legal requirements in AI systems.
  • Understanding of IP considerations in AI development, including training data rights, model ownership, and output licensing.
  • Experience with AI risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies.
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
