What will the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Terrestris do?

A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse who specializes in the administration of anesthesia and anesthesia-related care across a variety of clinical settings. You will play a critical role in patient care, working with surgeons, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide anesthesia services for surgeries, procedures, and pain management.

What does a typical day look like for the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist?

You will:

  • Administer general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care, and Bier blocks.
  • Perform medical management of postoperative pain.
  • Lead resuscitative efforts until a physician can.
  • Work independently to perform Pre-anesthetic Evaluation including:
    • Obtaining an appropriate health history.
    • Conducting an appropriate physical exam.
    • Requesting pertinent diagnostic studies.
    • Selecting, obtaining, ordering, and administering pre-anesthetics medications.
    • Obtaining informed consent for anesthesia, anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergence.
    • Documenting the informed consent, along with the pre-anesthetic evaluation, in the electronic record system.
  • Perform Preoperative and Intra-operative Care including:
    • Obtaining, preparing, and using all equipment, monitors, supplies, and drugs used for the administration of anesthesia.
    • Performing and ordering safety checks as needed.
  • Selecting, obtaining, or administering the anesthetics (General, Regional, MAC), adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids and blood products necessary to manage the anesthetics.
  • Performing all aspects of airway management.
  • Inserting peripheral venous catheters.
  • Performing and managing Bier Blocks.
  • Providing appropriate non-invasive monitoring modalities utilizing current standards and techniques.
  • Evaluating patient response during emergence from anesthesia and institute pharmacological or supportive treatment to ensure patient stability during transfer.
  • Perform Postoperative Care including:
    • Providing post-anesthesia follow up evaluation of the patient’s response to anesthesia and surgical experience.
  • Delivering a full report to the recovery room.
  • Selecting and administering medication as necessary in the recovery room.
  • Initiating and administering respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation in the post-anesthesia period.
  • Initiating and administering pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system during post-anesthesia.
  • Mortality and Morbidity Committee participation when part of care team of patients needing reviewed.
  • Conduct the review of eight unique patient records every eight months to maintain professional privileges.

What qualifications do you look for?

You might be the medical professional we’re looking for if you have:

  • A full and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • The knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the CRNA process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Computer literacy as patient documentation is directly entered in the patient’s electronic medical record. Proficiency in the use of the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) system and the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) are preferred.
  • Graduated from a school of professional nursing approved by The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications by a provider recognized by the American Heart Association.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the last 10 years.
  • Two proofs of identification on your first day of work.
  • Fingernails that are short enough to allow thorough cleaning underneath them and not cause glove tears. Artificial fingernails or extenders (including overlay nail products such as gel, acrylic, or shellac) are NOT to be worn.
