We are currently recruiting for multiple Clinical Substance Abuse Counselors to function as a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialists at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) in the Department of Psychosocial Treatment (PST).


The primary purpose of these positions are to provide a range of advanced group therapy and counseling skills. Job duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide group and individual counseling.
  • Provide assessments for patients with substance use history, for diagnostic purposes.
  • Function as a liaison with the clinical treatment units (Acute Adult, Community Transition, Forensic Services, and Geriatric Services) under the direction of the Psychosocial Treatment Senior Psychologist.
  • All groups that are provided by this position should be evidenced based and related to substance use and abuse, through coverage for other disciplines may be required at times.
The normal work hours for these positions are between 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with flexibility primarily Monday - Friday with some weekend work. These are full-time positions and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement. These positions are designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather.

  • Knowledge of assessment tools for addiction disorders.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnoses.
  • Knowledge of the substance abuse addition processes, including psychological and physical withdrawal.
  • Knowledge of evidence based group treatment for substance abuse.
  • Must be fully Licensed as a Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) or as a Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI) from a governing authority recognized by the NC Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board to practice under the provisions of the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Act.
ADA physical requirements will be discussed during interview, they include routine observational, group, leadership, staff training, and "office" type tasks. However, given the potentially aggressive nature of the hospital's patient population, there is an ongoing risk of physical confrontation and the necessity of therapeutic (physical) restraint. Like all hospital staff in direct care positions, this position is trained in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) therapeutic self-protective techniques.
