Salary Range: $58,977.96- $78,735.58 General Description and Classification Standards: Performs inspections of residential and commercial structures to ensure compliance with applicable building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes. This role supports the safe construction, alteration, or repair of buildings and provides interpretation of codes to stakeholders. Supervision Received: Normally receives guidance regarding mission and unusual priorities but may independently set inspection schedules and field methodologies. Conducts inspections of commercial and residential construction projects. Examines all phases of construction including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and finishes. Verifies code compliance and issues corrective notices or stop work orders. Provides code guidance and interpretation to contractors, builders, and the public. Responds to field and office inquiries regarding inspections or requirements. May assist with plan reviews and scheduling field inspections. May perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience - High school diploma or GED required. Five (5) years of work experience as a building contractor or journeyman across disciplines. Licensures and Certifications – Required: Valid Georgia Driver’s License Must possess a minimum of five (5) of the following certifications: ICC Residential Building Inspector ICC or IAPMO Residential Plumbing Inspector ICC or IAPMO Residential Mechanical Inspector ICC or IAEI Residential Electrical Inspector ICC Residential Combination Inspector ICC Commercial Building Inspector ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector ICC Commercial Plumbing Inspector ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector ICC Commercial Combination Inspector ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) Preferred Requirements – Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field. Ten (10) years of construction/inspection experience, with at least five (5) years working on residential and commercial properties. State of Georgia General Contractor License. Work Environment: Field-based work with exposure to construction sites, weather, and physical hazards. Lifting Requirements: Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Medium work:Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
