PURPOSE SUMMARY. Under the supervision of the Health and Human Services Division Manager for Court Compliance and with support from the Compliance Officer Lead, monitor offenders convicted of misdemeanors for compliance of their court-ordered sanctions. Must be willing to provide support and guidance to offenders to meet department’s mission and philosophy statements and to reduce recidivism of DWI, Domestic Violence and other misdemeanor offenses.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Monitoring Duties. 



  • Monitor and/or track misdemeanor offenders placed on supervised probation to ensure they are meeting the terms and conditions established by their court-ordered Judgment and Sentence and the programs goals and objectives. Communicate and gather information via phone, via virtual platform, letter or face-to-face interaction.



  • Alert the courts of a misdemeanor offender’s non-compliant behaviors by composing a probation violation/revocation report and submits through the District Attorney’s Office. 



  • Work with District, Magistrate and Municipal judges and other specialty courts within Doña Ana County and their staff to monitor and track offender compliance.



  • Serve as liaison between the courts and misdemeanor offenders: appear in court to testify; and make recommendations as necessary. 



  • Work closely with District Attorney’s Office to assist with probation violation/revocation hearings, motion hearings, etc. Provide testimony, evidence and recommendations as needed. 



  • Maintain appropriate paper and electronic records. Verify and input offender’s information including progress notes into required databases including the statewide client tracking system per the State of New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration, Local DWI Division. Run reports to assist with data validity, caseload management, etc.



  • Responsible for setting up misdemeanor offenders with electronic devices to assist in tracking and monitoring.



  • Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and other program related documents as needed using approved templates. 


 

2. Support Duties.



  • Make referrals and/or disseminates information to offenders in regard to various agencies and resources available to assist with completing programs required or needed in order to complete their supervised probation term successfully. This includes monitoring that court fees, probation fees, donations, restitution, etc. are paid as required per Judgment and Sentence. 



  • Administer and review the state-approved and mandated screening assessment completed by offenders and makes recommendations for further evaluation and treatment services as needed.



  • Coordinate with substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health providers or other service providers to facilitate and encourages court-ordered and/or necessary treatment services are accessed in a timely manner. Such as 90-day outpatient, 28-day inpatient and/or Drug Court, Batterer’s Intervention Program, Anger Management, mental health counseling, medically assisted treatment etc.



  • Assist with case management needs if any are identified during offender’s supervised probation period. This includes referring offender’s to agencies that can assist with job searching, job development skills, SNAP benefits, Medicaid benefits, parenting classes, housing, financial benefits (SSI, TANF, etc.) etc.



  • Keep offender’s information confidential and follow all laws and policies related to the protections of private information.



  • Assist misdemeanor offenders with general court process information that may arise during their probation period such as status hearings, clearing a bench warrant, motion hearings, etc.



  • Deliver presentations for community awareness and education and represents division in public meetings and events as requested by Division Manager and/or Director.



  • Attend staff meetings, scheduled trainings and Special Events as directed by Division Manager and/or Director.


 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS.

A. Education. Bachelors’ degree in Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Family and Consumer Science, or Counseling.

B. Experience. Two (2) years of case management experience in a probation position or law enforcement setting is preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.

C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy.

D. Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver’s license. No DWI conviction within three years of application and must not be convicted of such while employed in the Court Compliance/LDWI program. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy. 

E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). Must pass background and driver’s license check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Must have knowledge of : Court procedures, prevention practices and methods, applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures, current literature, and trends.

Must have skill to : Operate a computer using software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access), maintain accurate records; develop spreadsheets, communicate effectively in verbal and written form with others.

Must have ability to : Work independently, develop collaborative partnerships, maintain accurate records and prepare reports, adhere to strict deadlines and schedules, and maintain confidentiality.

 

Compensation Range

$18.24 - $29.16
