Position Summary:

North Sky Construction is seeking a seasoned Superintendent who wants a career, not just a job to join our group. As a Superintendent you will collaborate directly with North Sky’s field personnel, leadership, architects, engineers, internal and external stakeholders, and authorities-having-jurisdictions on commercial and residential projects. To be successful in our company, you need to possess the following abilities, including, but not limited to:

  • A strong and comprehensive working knowledge and practice of commercial construction methods from Division 01-General Requirements through Division 33 – Utilities.
  • Ability to perform at a Carpenter III position, a master craftsman.
  • Direct and coordinate all activities associated with the construction of the project and site in accordance with established schedules, budgets, plans, specifications, and procedures.
  • Ability to read/understand blueprints/specifications/shop drawings and field orders to determine job tasks.
  • Develop and coordinate all construction activities through work schedule and assigning crew responsibilities.
  • Understand, enforce, and lead by example company, WSI and OSHA safety policies and practices.
  • Promote a positive, effective work environment while fostering communication and teamwork.
  • Communicate important project information to project management staff and construction partners.
  • Drive cost-effective project management techniques and strategies in the field.
  • Maintain strict build-out construction schedules and make changes as necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Maintain daily paperwork (i.e. timecards, field authorizations, daily reports, injury reports, record drawings, etc.).
  • Train and mentor new staff while monitoring their job performances.
  • Manage and control material and equipment inventories.
  • Work with materials such as metal, wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, and concrete.
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure without fear of failing.
  • Utilize tools such as saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
  • Operate equipment (pick-ups, skid steers, mini excavators, power buggies, scissor lifts, etc.) safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, and adhesives.
  • Perform construction demolition.
  • Ability to accurately layout, and efficiently frame metal and wood wall and parapet assemblies.
  • Accurately install wood and metal blocking materials to support wall-mounted items.
  • With craftsmanship, cut and install architectural woodwork (trim, casing, stair treads/risers, etc.).
  • Correctly and efficiently set hollow-metal and wood pre-hung door frames and window assemblies.
  • Install and adjust door hardware.
  • Install restroom accessories and toilet partitions.
  • Assemble and install casework, trim, countertops, and windowsills.
  • Safely and appropriately erect and work on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Identify and report on areas impacted.
  • Evaluate and document readings for acceptable levels.
  • Perform set-up and clean-up tasks at job sites.
  • And, perform other duties and assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree, high school graduate, or GED (Required).
  • Prefer a minimum of ten years in a commercial construction supervisory capacity with detailed knowledge and practices of Division 01 – General Requirements through Division 33 – Utilities.
  • Professional communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Team Meetings), Adobe Pro, and Bluebeam.
  • Excellent time management, verbal, and written communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Strong initiative and a self-starter.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in a typical field environment with an above-standard level of noise.
  • Be able to solve problems and make informed decisions independently in a creative and effective manner.
  • Strong math & analytical skills.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively multi-task and prioritize work in an ever changing and challenging environment.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
  • OSHA 30-hour Card, or willing to obtain an OSHA 30-hour Card within thirty days of employment.
  • Have or be able to obtain NDSC equipment operator certifications.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License with a Group A classification.

Work Environment

The minimum physical work requirements listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Willingness to work in a demanding and sometimes a stressful environment.
  • This position is in the Grand Forks region, and when necessary, at remote project locations.
  • Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, varying noise levels, and extreme temperature variations.

Physical Requirements:

The physical requirements listed here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, at a minimum:

  • Position involves standing for extended periods of time.
  • Sit, bend, walk, and lift to seventy-five (75) pounds at any given time.
  • Be able to move around prospective or current project sites, including climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, walking long distances, and climbing stairs.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening (Required).
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record (Required).
  • Ability to pass a background check (Required).
