Entry-Level Computer Technician / Client Support Specialist

Location(s): Morris County Area (at client locations + Mendham HQ)with occasional visits to Union County Area

About the Role

Peggnet Computers is seeking a motivated and organized Entry-Level Computer Technician / Client Support Specialist to provide full-time computer and customer support to schools, municipalities, and businesses throughout Morris and Union Counties.

This role combines hands-on technical work with frontline customer service assisting walk-in clients at our Mendham shop, performing diagnostic intakes, documenting device issues, collecting deposits, and supporting remote-site users in the field. Youll work closely with senior technicians and help ensure every client receives professional, accurate, and timely service.

Position Highlights

• Full-Time Schedule: 8:45 AM 5:15 PM, MondayFriday
• Work Environment: HQ (Mendham, NJ) and On-site at client locations

Core Responsibilities

• Greet and assist customers during check-ins accurately intake devices and document issues in our service system (mHelpDesk / Datto BMS)
• Record detailed notes including passwords, serial numbers, and reported problems
• Collect deposits and process payments professionally and securely
• Tag, label, and organize devices awaiting diagnosis or repair
• Provide clear, courteous updates to clients via phone and email
• Support senior technicians in diagnostics, repairs, and on-site service visits
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace
• Assist with desktop and network troubleshooting (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, etc.)
• Provide technical assistance and walk clients through solutions to ensure issues are resolved
• Work both independently and collaboratively to complete tasks and meet service goals

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

• Meticulous organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple open tickets, devices, and tasks
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) can explain technical issues in plain language
• Friendly presence and customer-first attitude patient, courteous, and professional with every interaction
• Basic technical knowledge of PC hardware and software (Apple, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android are a plus)
• Fundamental understanding of:
  • WAN/LAN wired and wireless networking
  • Active Directory, printer setup and maintenance
  • Image deployment, classroom technologies, and Google Workspace
  • Windows Server environments, DNS, TCP/IP, and connectivity basics
• Prior help desk or retail service experience preferred (even part-time or school-based)
• Ability to troubleshoot and document problems clearly and efficiently
• Self-motivated and dependable, able to work with or without supervision
• Professional appearance, integrity, and discretion when handling client data

Requirements:

• High School Diploma (Associates or technical coursework preferred)
• 12 years of customer-facing or IT support experience preferred
• Valid Drivers License & Reliable Vehicle (travel to client sites required)
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify compliance required)
