Kittery Trading Post/ Director of Human Resources/ Kittery, Maine

We are working with our client, Kittery Trading Post , a well-established family-owned retail business for over 80 years, with an opportunity for a Director of Human Resources to join their team working in Kittery, Maine .

The Director of Human Resources, reporting to the Sr VP /CFO, will oversee the organization’s HR operations for its retail, warehouse, distribution center and web business in Maine and NH.

In this professional, hands on role, you will be responsible for oversight of all aspects of the HR functions and will lead a team that drives HR programs and best practices including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations and engagement, identify talent management goals, benefits management, performance management, compliance, safety, policy development, succession planning and leadership development and training.

Requirements for the Director of Human Resources:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR certification preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in HR within the retail or hospitality industry preferred
  • Expertise with HR systems integration and implementation
  • Experience with payroll and benefits administration
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Direct experience with talent management, recruiting, employee relations, compensation, and benefits plan design
  • Administrative experience with 401k and profit-sharing plans
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience leading a small HR team
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws, compliance and regulations

Responsibilities of the Director of Human Resources:

  • Administer and manage benefits plan design
  • Lead talent acquisition, including recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes
  • Develop and implement employee development programs and initiatives
  • Oversee performance management systems and provide coaching to managers
  • Identify professional leadership development opportunities and create training programs to enhance supervisory skills
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Responsible for investigating, monitoring, and resolving employee situations from origin to conclusion while minimizing organizational risk
  • Develop and manage competitive compensation and benefits programs
  • Assess HR technology and systems
  • Ensure that all HR policies and procedures, benefits and safety are compliant with laws and regulations
  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management
  • Build and develop HR team by providing feedback, coaching and fostering a collaborative and supportive environment
