Job Description

Position Overview

 

The Education Analyst will perform a variety of complex and specialized research and other support functions; to assist as an information source regarding federal, state and district policies, regulations and guidelines in the area of education.

 

Essential Functions and Specific Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of public-school systems and special education programs.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing documents and strategy for special education, Section 504, expulsion, and school accommodations cases, including but not limited to preparation for informal dispute resolution meetings, formal resolutions, mediations, hearings and related litigation.
  • Assist in reviewing and checking a variety of records, forms, and hearing documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Maintain close communication and working relationship with school law attorneys, paralegals, LPAs and client representatives as needed to support education practice.
  • Providing case support by analyzing, organizing, reviewing, classifying and summarizing education records, with a primary focus on special education matters.
  • Apply experience, training and professional judgment in interpreting student evaluations and making recommendations about student needs.
  • Prepare materials and organize exhibits for informal dispute resolution meetings, formal resolutions, mediations, hearings and related litigation.
  • Track compliance with applicable deadlines for informal dispute resolution meetings, formal resolutions, mediations, hearings and related litigation.
  • Assist in preparing witnesses and case strategy for education litigation cases.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master’s degree or higher in the field of Special Education, Psychology, School Administration or similar area of study from an accredited college or university program required.
  • Applicant must possess 10+ years of experience working in special education in a public school setting, preferably as an administrator of special education programs.
  • Possess knowledge of, and the ability to understand, the provisions of federal and state law and regulations pertaining to IDEA and Section 504 and legal interpretations of such law and regulations by federal and state courts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs, virtual platforms, CT-SEDS and client management systems.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously and to schedule time and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Possess a high degree of accountability and responsibility to ensure that special education and related matters are managed in accordance with school attorneys’ needs.
  • Able to engage in high-level problem solving.
  • Discretion in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail.

Hours: Full-time, with flexibility to work additional hours as indicated by client and Firm needs.

Physical and Other Requirements

The work is primarily of an intellectual nature and requires a variety of physical capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and rarely has to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. This position requires the ability to operate a keyboard at efficient speed. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly to stand, walk, talk and hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
