Job Description

Description

The Bose McKinney & Evans LLP Fellowship is a summer associate program focused on 1L students who have faced and overcome adversity in their path to law school.

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in a Juris Doctor program, maintain a minimum 3.4 grade point average throughout the fellowship, and have an interest in a paid summer associate position with the Indianapolis office of Bose McKinney & Evans. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate how they have overcome adversity on their path to law school. Adversity is a broad term, but could encompass:
  • discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or other status;
  • physical or mental disability;
  • mental or emotional health challenges;
  • economic hardship;
  • injury or illness;
  • family or personal hardship;
  • overcoming crime; or
  • any significant challenge or difficult life experience that will contribute to the diverse perspectives at the firm and inform the applicant's future law practice.
Summer Fellowship: This is a potential two-year fellowship. The selected fellow will be a paid summer associate with the Indianapolis office of Bose McKinney & Evans between the student's first and second years of law school. If the fellow is an evening/part-time student, the opportunity may be extended through the summers between the student's second and third years of law school. Fellows will be considered for an additional year of scholarship and for another paid summer associate position for the next summer upon successful completion of the first summer fellowship and compliance with grade point average expectations. Fellows are eligible to be considered for full-time employment as an associate at Bose McKinney & Evans upon graduation. However, there is no guarantee of a position.

Fellowship Award: The fellow will receive a $10,000 award to be paid upon selection. Additionally, the fellow is eligible to receive another $10,000 award in the second year of law school upon review of the fellow's quality of summer work, as evaluated by our Summer Associate and Recruitment Committees. The fellow also must maintain a minimum 3.4 grade point average.

Mentoring: Upon selection and acceptance, the fellow will be paired with a mentor from Bose McKinney & Evans. Additionally, each fellow will be required to participate in a minimum of two additional formal and/or informal firm networking events, as agreed upon by the firm and the fellow. The mentorship and networking sessions are designed to offer supplemental guidance to the fellow and to better assist with integration into the firm upon the start of the summer fellowship.

Application Process: Interested students shall submit the following: 1) a cover letter which addresses why the candidate wants to work for Bose McKinney & Evans, as well as discuss how they have overcome adversity on their path to law school; 2) a separate statement of no more than one page, which addresses the importance of inclusivity in the legal profession; 3) a resume; 4) a legal writing sample; 5) an unofficial copy of undergraduate transcript; and 6) a reference page with a minimum of three professional/academic references and two character references. After the initial application process, candidates will be required to submit an unofficial copy of their first semester law school transcript.

Bose McKinney and Evans' Commitment to Inclusion: For more than 60 years, Bose McKinney & Evans has been a leader in the legal profession and business community. As part of our firm's leadership for the future, we recognize that the firm must reflect the diverse individuals and entities it serves in order to be able to provide dynamic and effective legal counsel to the global business community.

To that end, we affirm our commitment to inclusion in all areas of our firm's operations, recruiting, and support programs. The firm believes that the success of this commitment requires the involvement of all partners, associates, administrators, and staff members. Our intent is to reach beyond our firm and genuinely impact the legal profession, our clients, and our community through leadership by example.

The firm intends to encourage the treatment of each person with dignity and respect, to value the different perspectives and experiences of a diverse workplace, and to promote the value inclusivity can bring to the firm, its clients, and the communities which it serves.

The deadline for submission is December 31, 2024.
