Purpose This position is responsible for leading, managing, and directing all fire protection and fire prevention activities at an industrial facility. This role ensures the protection of personnel, property, and operations through effective fire suppression systems, rescue, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention programs. This individual develops and maintains the site’s fire emergency response capability in compliance with applicable laws, industry standards, and company policies. This position may be required to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities - Lead and supervise a team of emergency responders, including training and performance management.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), post orders, and incident command structures for all fire and emergency situations.
- Establish a culture of safety, readiness, and continuous improvement.
- Direct emergency response, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, and medical emergency response operations.
- Oversee maintenance, testing, and inspection of all fire protection systems.
- Ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and local/state fire codes and regulations.
- Develop and implement site-specific fire pre-plans, response strategies, and mutual aid agreements. Participate in regular fire drills, tabletop exercises, and full-scale emergency response exercises.
- Develop and deliver training programs for the fire aid providers and other plant personnel, including first aid, fire extinguisher use, evacuation procedures, and incident reporting.
- Work with insurance under writers to mitigate risk, implement recommendation(s) and lower the company’s exposure to loss.
- Maintain required certifications for personnel and equipment.
- Perform fire risk assessments and inspections of plant facilities, operations, and processes.
- Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and work collaboratively with operations and maintenance to implement controls.
- Lead fire investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action tracking for fire incidents or near misses.
- Develop and manage the fire department’s capital budgets.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, inspection reports, and training documentation.
- Prepare and present reports and recommendations to senior management.
Minimum Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 12 years of experience in a fire services or manufacturing leadership role.
- Emergency Medical Technician - Basic certification
- NFPA Fire Officer II certificaition
Preferred Qualifications - Associate's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Emergency Management, or related with at least 9 years of experience in a fire services or manufacturing leadership role.
