Job Description:
The Department of Chemistry at York College of Pennsylvania is seeking a Chemistry Instructor position to begin August 2025. The instructor will primarily be responsible for teaching general chemistry lectures and labs to science, health science, and engineering majors. These courses will likely be offered in the daytime but some evening laboratory sections may be required. Potential courses include General Chemistry I lecture (CHM 134), General Chemistry I lab (CHM 135), General Chemistry II lab (CHM 137), Principles of General and Organic Chemistry lab (CHM 123), and our general education course, Perspectives of the Molecular World lecture and lab (CHM240/241). General Chemistry I Lecture and lab include an introduction to stoichiometry, atomic structure, chemical bonding, properties and reactions of inorganic compounds, introductory thermodynamics, acids and bases, and oxidation-reduction reactions. The CHM 123 lab partners with CHM 122, a general/organic/biochemistry course for students seeking careers in related fields (i.e. nursing, environmental horticulture, exercise science).
The instructor will be responsible for facilitating in-class instruction and grading, and will be expected to work collaboratively with a team of professors teaching these courses. A common textbook, homework platform, and lab manual will be adopted by the instructor, as a member of the team of faculty. Additional duties may involve working with industry partners in continued support of the Chemistry Departments Industry Advisory Council (CIAC). Prior teaching experience is preferred. A Masters degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical education or a closely related field is required. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, organize laboratory work, and exhibit excellent management and interpersonal skills. College and departmental service is expected, such as engagement in monthly meetings and recruitment events.
Graduate transcripts should be uploaded along with a cover letter, resume and 3 references.
