Job Description

Overview

We can't do it without YOU!

Do you want to apply your experience, skills and education in a way that makes a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of our patients and their families? At Tennessee Cancer Specialists, it is the privilege of our employees to walk with our patients and their families as they move along the journey of fighting cancer. Whether you are working directly with patients in one of our clinics or in a support role, you are an important part of our mission to deliver the highest quality, compassionate care. Our 200+ employees make up the teams at our 17 different East Tennessee locations!

As an Insurance Reviewer, you will determine the financial responsibility of our patients based on communicated treatment plans and serve as a resource to multiple areas of the practice.

Responsibilities

Here's what might happen on a typical day...

Your role is unique because you work closely with multiple departments to determine financial responsibility for our patients. The unique talents of an insurance reviewer allow them to understand treatment plans and ensure proper steps are taken for approval of these treatment plans.

This position requires attention to detail in order to communicate and document process details to keep other members of the team up-to-date on a patient's financial status. Superior organization skills will allow you to track patient information quickly when necessary.

Experiences that matter...

  • Being able to build trust with providers and other clinical team members makes you an asset to the practice. Your expertise allows you to determine the financial considerations we will need to keep in mind in order to move forward with a patient's treatment plan.
  • Your teamwork skills allow you to work closely with our patient advocate and patient assistance team members to initiate the process of determining any possible financial need. In conversations with team members, you will be a friendly and respectful resource.
  • You understand how the insurance verification and pre-authorization processes play into your role and work well with those team members.
  • Demonstrating understanding of patient confidentiality allows you to protect patient and clinic information.
  • Your go-getter work ethic will have you ready to jump in and help out with any additional tasks.

Qualifications

For your safety, keep this in mind:

  • The position will require sitting for long periods of time with occasional stooping, bending and stretching for supplies.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 30 pounds or less.
  • You will need sufficient manual dexterity for operating office equipment (keyboard, telephone, copier, etc.), and vision and hearing must be adequate for viewing computer screens for prolonged periods of time and hearing customers during in-person and telephone conversations.

We feel this position requires these basics:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required with a proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Your knowledge of medical terminology and medical coding is required.
  • This position is fully in-office in Knoxville, Tennessee with no remote or hybrid opportunities. You are located within a commutable distance or in the process of relocating to the area.
  • You may or may not be bilingual with previous oncology/hematology experience, but either of those qualifications would be a major benefit to you in this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school degree or equivalent. Associates degree in Healthcare, LPN state license and registration preferred. Minimum three (3) years medical insurance verification and authorization required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be present at the employee site during regularly scheduled business hours and regularly required to sit or stand and talk or hear. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
