Event: From the Heights - Solo Art Exhibition by Kabuya Pamela Bowens-Saffo Location: Museum of Art and Design, Miami Dade College About the Exhibition From the Heights marks the first solo art exhibition in Miami by South Florida native Kabuya Pamela Bowens-Saffo. Featuring works from 1977 to the present, the exhibition celebrates her career as a printmaker and her contributions to the South Florida art community. Artist Background Based in Tallahassee, Bowens-Saffo has been actively engaged with the Miami Black Arts Workshop and has served as an influential educator at the Barnyard Community Center in Coconut Grove. Her impactful experiences in Richmond Heights and Coconut Grove have shaped her focus on social and political themes, emphasizing the African American experience. She holds a BFA from Howard University and an MFA from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University, and has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Exhibition Themes From the Heights explores the role of art collectives, the importance of archiving an artist’s work, and addresses issues of race, gender, and class in historical context.
