Closes: 11/8/2024 Lead Cemetery/Community Garden Caretaker Reports to: Physical Resources Director Salary (Grade): $22.73 (G17-E) Status: Reg., Full-time (Non-exempt) Location: Physical Resource Building/ the Ranch Job Purpose & Position Overview This position is a supervisor position for the maintenance and upkeep of the Community Garden and the Cemeteries (when needed) on the Winnebago Reservation. Duties include, but are not limited to, sodding, seeding, planting, fertilizing, operating earthmoving and lawn care equipment, maintenance, upkeep, cleanup and other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the Winnebago Tribes core mission, vision, and values.
- Track and reconcile all program expenditures in compliance with applicable purchases.
- Coordinate with Tribal Finance and Programs to confirm payments are made to vendors in a timely manner without delay.
- Prepare digital Purchase Orders for submittal to Finance Department.
- Prepares and completes all required reports, operating plans, fiscal/budgeting for all involved programs.
- Shall be responsible for scanning and maintaining a digital catalog of all Gardening/Cemetery related documents.
- Shall be responsible for ordering and payment of office supplies, and equipment and etc.
- Responsible for the operation, care, maintenance, and inventory of all supplies and equipment including, but not limited to, tractors, mowers and hand powered tools owned by the Tribe.
- Schedule repairs as needed for Tribal equipment.
- Always Maintain a safe work environment; follow all safety rules and regulation and bring safety concerns to direct supervisor.
- Submit monthly reports of activities and accomplishments including submission of a final harvest to Physical Resource Director, Administration, and Tribal Council.
- Supervise program staff on daily basis.
- Attend required company and departmental meetings.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures, AOPs, and SOP for program operations.

Cemetery Specific Duties:
- Responsible for the overall presentation and appearance of the communities cemeteries which includes mowing grass, pruning shrubs, trimming trees, spreading of pesticide/herbicide, weeding, landscaping, maintenance of fences and other structures with in the cemeteries including graves and headstones on an as needed basis.
- Mow lawns, edge walkways, and trim trees and hedges to give grounds a clean, manicured look on an as needed basis.
Community Garden Specific Duties:
- Responsible for maintaining segregation of tribal garden plots, planting, weed control, watering, harvesting, and transport of produce to Farmers Market or other local destinations.
- Document and map community garden plot dimensions including areas identified as Bago Grows plots.
- Document of fruits and vegetables in the tribal gardens, fertilizing, composting, adding trellises/supports and harvesting.
- Apply fertilizer, seed, and weed killer as needed as well as water all identified areas.
- Maintain seeds, fertilizers, livestock feed, and other supplies are restocked.
- Implement Strategic planning for the future of the program long term ability, which include planning and the development of future farm and pasture expansion.
- Implement marketing and sale of produce on the farm such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and grain.
- Prepare plans and schedule for planting and harvesting.
- Planting fruit and vegetables at the farm which include proper fertilizer maintenance to composting, adding trellises/support and harvesting.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Valid drivers license required; must be able to meet drivers eligibility guidelines for insurance.
- Knowledge of operations and maintenance of all grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, tractors, bush hogs, backhoes, skip loaders, manual transmissions, dump trucks, and chainsaws required.
- Must perform all duties in a manner that adheres to and promotes defined company safety standards.
- Proficient with development and use of Microsoft EXCEL and WORD software.
- Excellent verbal and written communicator; ability to write reports, training and marketing materials, technical reports. Ability to present to groups of people.
- Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting practices.
- Experience in dealing with confidential information.
- Self-starter with the ability to perform with little or no direct supervision.
- Ability to pass drug screen and background checks.
Education Preference: - High School Diploma or G.E.D. is preferred.
Work Environment: - Both indoor and outdoor assignments are involved with frequent prolonged exposure to inclement weather. Position requires working extended or irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays with frequently rotating shifts and duty stations. Assignments are subject to change without advance notice.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Will provide supervision to Summer Youth Employment workers, VISTA workers, TANF workers, community members and volunteers and Cemetery/Community Garden Caretakers.
Training Requirements: - Must attend all department meetings and training courses as directed by Physical Resources Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Heavy office work, which includes the ability to lift over 70 lbs.
- Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone and various office equipment.
- While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- Ability to drive company owned vehicle or personal vehicle.
- Ability to travel via car or plane.

- Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.
Language Requirements:
- Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
