Job Description

OVERVIEW
Newlab is looking for a Managing Director to lead our regional headquarters in Brooklyn. This executive leader will play a critical role in continuing to grow Brooklyn as a global center of excellence for critical technology commercialization and investment, driving the strategic growth of the Newlab business and brand in the region. The Managing Director will lead Newlab's Venture Platform in the region, including a wide range of public and private partnerships, teams across Newlab business units, and an expanding portfolio of infrastructure assets all aimed at scaling our critical technology startup ecosystem in Brooklyn. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in driving scaled business outcomes at a rapidly growing organization, experience building and managing relationships with public and private sector stakeholders, and a passion for critical technology, startups, and venture capital to lead the growth of the business and the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as single threaded owner for Newlab Brooklyn, overseeing the development, implementation and management of the regional strategy and P&L
  • oversee the integrated location team to deliver business outcomes with a focus on driving profitability and excellence in execution
  • Develop and continuously evolve strategies optimized for attracting high-impact, high-velocity startups to the region
  • Participate in the companies annual strategic planning and budget processes to align the regional strategy with Newlab's global strategy
  • Set annual growth targets for the region and support business development activities to deliver against them
  • Execute and continuously evolve the Membership, Commercialization and Ventures strategy for Newlab Brooklyn based on location KPIs and regional demand and work with ELT and Global teams to implement
  • Oversee the tracking and reporting of regional KPIs and outcomes internally and externally
  • Consistently identify and implement strategies to increase efficiency and maximize impact potential
  • Drive external engagement and cultivate and manage key relationships across the regional ecosystem
  • Continuously cultivate strategic government and industry partnerships to advance Newlab's business and impact goals
  • Serve as a thought-leader and the public face of Newlab Brooklyn to elevate Newlab's mission and profile in the region and represent Newlab on relevant governance councils, stakeholder groups, etc.
  • Establish and maintain a results-oriented culture centered around velocity, excellence, collaboration, and accountability
  • Recruit, build and manage a high-performing team to deliver the regional strategy
ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS
  • Strategic executive with a strong track record of leading through influence to deliver scaled business outcomes
  • Deep understanding of the New York innovation and venture ecosystem and strong personal relationships across key City, State and Regional government entities
  • Experience managing a P&L and making data-driven decisions to advance business and impact objectives
  • Experience holding a senior leadership role in a cross-functional organization
  • Strong experience building and managing relationships with public and private stakeholders
  • Proven track record of recruiting top talent and aligning and inspiring teams around a unique business model
  • Experience driving structured collaboration between startups, government and industry stakeholders to advance the commercialization of emerging technologies
  • Strong understanding of startups and venture capital
EXPERIENCE
  • 15+ years of senior management experience in management consulting or strategic advisory and/or strategic economic development
  • Proven record of delivering successful public private partnerships with multi-year timelines
  • Experience with startups; growing teams and employee management
Compensation: $220,000-260,000
