G & H Towing Company is one of the oldest and most progressive towing companies on the Texas Gulf Coast operating a fleet of over 40 harbor tugs providing harbor towing services to some of the largest and busiest ports in the United States. Job Summary

The mechanic will perform routine and emergency maintenance as directed by engineering department supervisors. This position is responsible for upholding best engineering practices for assigned tasks, as well as promoting safe work practices with all employees, vendors, and visitors. Mechanic classification requires experience and proficiency in one or more defined skills such as diesel mechanic, electrician, HVAC, welding, pipefitting , hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and carpentry.

Education & Experience

  • A High school diploma or GED is required; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on site in adverse conditions and at all hours
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Education of equipment as used on vessels
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with repair on shipyards, tugs, and barges essential.
  • Marine electrical experience 480, 230, 208 3 Phase
  • Marine engine and gear experience preferred o EMD, John Deere and Caterpillar experience (EMD, John Deere, and Caterpillar experience)
  • Minimum of two (2) years craft experience in maritime repairs on vessels
  • Requires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search engines

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Requires an active and valid driver's license
  • Requires a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC)

Working Conditions

  • Work hours will be assigned based on business needs however, work hours will typically be Monday-Friday from 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. G&H Towing’s tugs operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week; maintenance and repairs will assist G&H tug operations 24 hour a day 7 days a week. All mechanics are expected to be available to work as needed. By request from the department manager or department director. Work hours may include irregular hours to assist in completing special tasks or assignments
  • Out-of-regional travel may be required to attend training, seminars, or work-related events
  • Work will be performed in the office, at a G&H Towing facility, or in the field

Special Projects

  • Assist the management and or executive team when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a negotiated time frame established by the department manager

  • Completion of other duties as assigned by the department manager as it relates to the program and position
