A registered phlebotomist is responsible for collecting and processing clinical specimens for laboratory analysis while providing patient care and clerical support in a healthcare setting. The role requires certification and the ability to work independently, as well as to train new phlebotomists. The position involves frequent public interaction and supports the laboratory and clinical teams in a hospital environment.
Description
The registered phlebotomist greets and handles outpatients, telephones, requests and performs procurement and processing of clinical specimens for laboratory analysis and reporting of results. The registered phlebotomist works under the general direction of the phlebotomy supervisor to perform clerical and miscellaneous tasks in the laboratory, yet hold the credentials to work independently. Being able to become the educator for new hire phlebotomists. The position requires a high level of public contact and the ability to deal with people in stressful situations.
