h5 Job Description Position Title: Purchasing Assistant Manager Department: Purchasing Location: Torrance, CA Reports to: General Manager FLSA Status: Exempt General Position Summary The primary responsibilities of the Purchasing Assistant Manager is to assist in developing, implementing and manage strategies for purchasing activities, both internationally and domestically, within the guidelines of the company. The Purchasing Assistant Manager will assist to establish, manage and measure performance of all vendors, suppliers, co-packers and/or blenders for all levels of procurement.
Essential Job Functions PURCHASING MANAGEMENT
•Assist to establish and manage overall purchasing strategy ensuring alignment with business needs including intermittent cost analysis as requested by Company President or the General Manager
•Identifies specific performance indicators for key purchasing functions by reviewing all major expense categories and sets saving targets
•Maintains strong understanding of market movement and identifying trends
•Researches and stays current with compliance requirements
•Works closely with Sales and Marketing on new product development and product packaging requirements
•Assist to establish and maintain budgeting process; works closely with General Manager to ensure department spending is within budget
•Request required forms (requisitions, purchase orders, etc.) from Purchasing Coordinators to be submitted for approval and reviews for accuracy to ensure pricing and margins are in line with the goals of the Company.
VENDOR MANAGEMENT
•Actively seek new co-packers and vendors to maintain costs or reduce costs on goods and services.
•Works closely with the General Manager on new vendor selection approval.
•Oversees and manages co-packers, suppliers, blenders and/or other vendors to ensure and maintain the highest quality of the products and service provided remain competitive with cost and delivery schedule
•Manages vendors and/or suppliers inventory levels, inventory receipts, physical inventory, product labeling and packaging requirements are met based on the guidelines of the Company
•Conducts annual vendor performance reviews and report to General Manager
FORECASTING & INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
•Analyzes and stays current with trends for future forecasting needs
•Manages processes to ensure inventory levels needed for production are sufficient
•Oversees and manages inventory adjustments entered by Purchasing Coordinators, and reports any unusual adjustments to the General Manager.
•Works internally to coordinate maximizing the timely utilization of all inventories, optimize inventory turns and reduce inventory shrink
•Manages physical inventory process ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT
•Provides day-to-day leadership for the Purchasing Team
•Documents policies and procedures for purchasing activities and trains as needed
•Manage and allocate work in order to facilitate continuous improvements and effectiveness
•Verifies and approves payroll time cards
•Drives and evaluates performance of direct reports
•Addresses complaints and resolves internal employee relation with assistance from Human Resources for any performance related issues up to and including disciplinary actions
•Communicates, both orally and written, effectively and efficiently in a professional manner
•Other duties and projects as assigned

•Ability to perform job duties in a professional manner while working with highly confidential and/or highly sensitive information

Qualifications Education Experience
•Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
•Must be bilingual English/Japanese
•Strong analytical skills required
Work Experience
•Minimum 5-7 years in purchasing, supply chain, procurement, and/or production required
•Experience in food and/or beverage ingredient required
•Working knowledge of organic, gluten free, kosher, and non-GMO requirements are required
•QuickBooks experience preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities
•Must have a minimum of 3-4 years experience in a supervisory role
