Job Summary

Aptive Resources is seeking a dedicated and skilled Board-Certified physician in the area of Radiation Oncology to join our team at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Lt. Col. Luke Weathers, Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.

VA Business Hours : Normal duty hours for Radiation Oncology Department are between 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays. Regular business hours for the medical center are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Work Schedule : Physician(s) will be required to work onsite Monday thru Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm, excluding holidays.

Off-hours Coverage : The Radiation Oncologist must be available on-call during hours when the Facility clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call schedule is TBD.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and treatment of transported inpatient and outpatient clinical services for both palliative and curative cancer patients; follow-up, re-evaluation, and treatment visit; and perform prostate seed implants (if applicable) in the OR.
  • Evaluation and a treatment plan; follow patients for treatment management, continuing monitoring and follow-up evaluations. Complete any documentation associated with the treatment provided to VA patients treated by them.
  • Conventional Radiation Treatment: Use of the following advanced modalities: IMRT, IGRT, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, and Stereotactic Radiotherapy, shall be fully justified in accordance with the appropriateness criteria promulgated by the American College of Radiology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Association for Physicist in Medicine.

  • Participate in Peer Review Conferences and Administrative Meetings as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have MD/DO, graduated radiation oncology residency, board certified in radiation oncology from the ABR with a minimum of five (5) years clinical experience excluding residency.
  • Physician must also have the following expertise and knowledge on the following procedures, equipment, and software: Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT)
  • Three (3) years of experience – Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
  • Minimum case experience of 10 documented cases within the last two years Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS): minimum case experience of 10 documented cases within the last 2 years.
  • Three years of Eclipse treatment planning system; and ARIA record & verify system, including the following treatment modalities: 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT (following standards of TG-53)
  • Physician will be required to attend quality improvement meetings, staff meetings, and oncology-specific conferences.
  • Electronic Medical Records: Enter notes and maintain patient records in a paperless medical record system.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities to maintain high standards of care.
  • Committee Membership: Engage in committee memberships as required, contributing to the governance and improvement of medical practices at the facility.
  • Compliance: Understand and abide by the Medical Bylaws of the facility and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Education: Must hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Must be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.
  • Licensure: Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Radiology
  • Must have a clear and active DEA
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills with a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for educating and counseling patients and their families.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records and maintaining accurate patient documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and participation in quality improvement activities.
