Overview Research Scientist Graduate - (Seed Multimodal Interaction and World Model - Reinforcement Learning) - 2026 Start (PhD) at ByteDance. This role is with the ByteDance Seed team, focused on advancing general intelligence through research in large language models, multimodal systems, and related areas. Successful candidates will commit to onboarding by the end of 2026 and should state availability and graduation date in their resume. Responsibilities Design and implement reinforcement learning (RL) training systems for large-scale multimodal foundation models Develop unified modeling frameworks that integrate video, audio, and language, with a focus on visual latent reasoning Explore RL-based approaches to bridge understanding and generation for multimodal visual reasoning Collaborate with researchers to evaluate models on tasks involving world modeling, reasoning, and instruction-conditioned generation Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Final year Ph.D or recent Ph.D graduates in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline Publications in top-tier venues, such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, or other leading AI/ML conferences Strong research background in at least one of the following: reinforcement learning, multimodal learning, video understanding, or vision-language modeling Preferred Qualifications: Experience with reinforcement learning in multimodal or interactive environments Familiarity with video generation or diffusion-based generative models Experience with large-scale model training (distributed training, curriculum learning, memory-augmented transformers) Solid programming and engineering skills, with experience building training or evaluation pipelines for ML models Important Policies By submitting an application for this role, you accept and agree to our global applicant privacy policy. Compensation & Benefits The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $187,040 - $438,000 annually. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay may be augmented by bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.
