Job Description & RequirementsUnit Overview\n\nUnit: 3W Stepdown\n\nBeds: 28 private beds\n\nPatient Population: Heavy cardiac focus – dysrhythmias, CVAs, mixed acuity patients, and stepdowns from ICU\n\nTelemetry: Yes\n\nMonitor techs available\n\nRNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips\n\nUnit serves as the central monitoring station for the hospital\n\nStaffing & Ratios\n\nNurse-to-Patient Ratios:\n\nStepdown: 1:4–5\n\nMed/Surg acuity: 1:6\n\nCharge Nurse:\n\nDays: No patient assignment\n\nNights: May take a patient assignment\n\nNurse Aides:\n\nDays & Mid shift: 2 per shift\n\nNo CNA coverage after 11:00 PM\n\nScheduling\n\nRN Shifts:\n\nDays: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM\n\nNights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM\n\nWeekend Requirement:\n\nEvery other weekend\n\nDays: Saturday/Sunday\n\nNights: Friday/Saturday/Sunday\n\nHoliday Requirement:\n\nEvery other holiday (rotates with permanent staff)\n\nBlock Scheduling: Allowed\n\nOrientation:\n\n2 floor-specific shifts with a preceptor\n\n🟦 Leadership Note: The unit director is highly communicative and supportive, works closely with staff and travelers on scheduling, and is known for being very easy to work with.\n\nCertifications Required\n\nBLS\n\nACLS\n\nNIHSS\n\nClinical Requirements\n\nEMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic)\n\nDrips (Must be able to titrate):\n\nCardizem\n\nNitroglycerin\n\nDopamine\n\nDobutamine\n\nHeparin\n\nInsulin is set-rate only\n\nNo sedation drips\n\nRespiratory Equipment:\n\nBiPAP, CPAP, High Flow\n\nVent Management: No invasive vents\n\nSupport Services\n\nHospitalist: In-house 24/7\n\nIntensivist:\n\nIn ICU 7 days/week (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)\n\nOn-call after hours\n\nNP coverage at times\n\nIV Team: None\n\nICU charge nurses or ICU director assist with difficult IV access\n\nRespiratory Therapy: In-house 24/7\n\nPharmacy: In-house 24/7\n\nFloating\n\nMay float to ICU as helping hands only\n\nDress Code\n\nScrubs: Navy Blue\n\nJackets (if worn): Must also be Navy Blue
