The Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC), expanding ninety-six acres and 8 city blocks, is one of the largest single-site jails in the country. The mission of the Cook County Department of Corrections is to ensure the safety of the citizens, correctional staff, and individuals in custody of Cook County. We provide a central location for screening and classification of all defendants and a safe, secure, humane, positive, efficient and constitutionally-operated corrections department with a highly qualified, well-trained and dedicated staff.

Correctional officers are responsible for maintaining order and safety in correctional facilities. They supervise inmates, enforce rules, and respond to incidents

Responsibilities:

• Enforce rules: Make sure inmates follow the rules and regulations of the facility
• Monitor behavior: Observe inmate behavior and activities
• Respond to incidents: Deal with fights, escapes, and other incidents
• Search for contraband: Look for weapons and drugs
• Settle disputes: Help resolve conflicts between inmates
• Inspect facilities: Check for security breaches and ensure facilities meet safety standards
• Transport inmates: Escort inmates between jails, prisons, courtrooms, and other locations
• Maintain records: Keep accurate records of inmate behavior and incidents
• Provide support: Help inmates who are having trouble adjusting to life in the facility
• Supervise work details: Oversee inmate work assignments
• Support activities: Provide support for educational, recreational, and religious activities

Requirements:

• Be a US citizen
• Be 21 years of age or older. Applicants may apply at 20 years old, but their file will not be reviewed until the applicant turns 21 years old.
• Have a high school diploma or a GED
• Have a valid drivers license
• Have a valid firearms identification card or be able to obtain one prior to certification

• Arrive anytime between 10 AM and 12:30 PM—Plan to spend 45 minutes to 1 hour at the event.

• Prepare a brief but effective “brag” to let the people you meet get to know you.

• Keep an open mind—Meet with as many of the companies as you can; you may be pleasantly surprised at what you find.
