Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The mental health professional is expected tosupport the emotional and mental health needs of the general crew population.The Counselor will provide counseling services, with appropriate discretionand confidentiality, to individuals and groups to promote optimum emotionaland mental health.
Key responsibilities include:
·Counseling crew individually and in groupsessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life changes, andmanaging relationship and work stressors.
·Maintaining confidentiality of records relating to therapyand treatment.
·Preparing and maintainingconfidential treatment records and producing reports, as needed.
·Evaluating crew members’ emotionaland mental condition based on review of information and interaction.
·Developing and implementingtreatment plans based on clinical experience, subject matter expertise, andpatient assessments.
·Providing crisis intervention,assessment, and referrals for crew members.
·Acting as a crew member advocate tocoordinate recommended and required services or to resolve urgent/emergentissues, as needed.?
QUALIFICATIONS ANDEDUCATION
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Knowledge of human behavior and performance;individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning andmotivation; psychological theory and research methods; and the assessment andtreatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
· Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics,societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures andtheir history and origins.
Education and Experience:
· Minimum 3 year of experience in the field.
· Licensed in counseling, psychology or a related field required.
· Master’s degree in psychology preferred
· Appropriate state credentials and licensing required.
LANGUAGE REQUIEREMENTS
· English Required Advanced Level, SecondLanguage Encouraged
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
·Whileperforming the duties of this job, the shipboard employee is regularlyrequired to stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach withhands and arms; talk or hear, and taste or smell. Specific vision abilitiesrequired by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
· Extensive travel from ship to ship withvarying accommodations and resting opportunities require good health. Activemanagement of health through diet and exercise is a key for prolonged successin the position
· All shipboard employees must be physicallyable to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full useand range of arms and legs as well as full visual, verbal, and hearingabilities are required to receive and give instructions in the event of anemergency, including the lowering of lifeboats. The employee must have theability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
· Work Hours: office hours and emergencies
Candidates are expected to work on board an international cruise ship.
