Job Description

Maintains locking and door hardware at all buildings on the university campus. Installs or replaces door hardware as required. Resets combination locks as required. Identify key type and make a new key from the original, from a key code or from an impression. Install or replace interior signage as required. Maintain the hardware elements of a card access system

This is an Essential Personnel position which can require that the incumbent must report for duty and work through emergencies, and also can be designated by the supervisor as essential for the accomplishment of work, or for the completion of a critical task.

  • Ability to operate all tools and equipment unique to the locksmith trade to include: power drills, boring machine, key cutting machine, lock picks, etc.
  • Ability to utilize computer-based software programs for the distribution and inventory control of materials.
  • Familiarity with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to the locksmith trade.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 6 in height and flights of stairs.
  • Ability to work on a ladder and remove or replace doors, weighing between 50 and 200 pounds, with assistance if required.
  • Ability to work independently and perform well with group assigned tasks.
  • Ability to install, maintain and program the VingCard Persona card locking system.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and possibly holidays.
  • Position is located in a non-smoking work area.
  • Position requires good communication and personal relations skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years relevant work experience
  • Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Driver's license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle Policy criteria to become authorized as a driver.
  • Five (5) years locksmith experience preferred.
